Week 28
Hey everyone! Sorry i didn't send out an email last week, we were busy hiking through the forest with some friends :) heres the update of my lil mish life!
England:
- so I am in a new area! It's called Eastwood, near Nottingham. It used to be a part of the Birmingham mission until like two months ago. My new comp is sooooooo cute! I love her, her name is Sister Ferrin from Thatcher, Arizona. She was originally in the Birmingham mission but got switched over to Leeds when the boundaries changed. We've been on our missions almost the same amount, she's like 3 weeks ahead of me. But yes I'm lovin it here! There's so much land to cover! And the flat is soooo nice, like wow livin posh here
-so yeah, last week we went hiking with some friends we met on the street, chai from Malaysia and Malcolm from London. They took us on a hike that was supposed to be an hour and a half..... 4 hours later still hiking rip p day. Sis Ferrin and I were dyin we were so sore haha but it was fun and special, we were grateful they showed us around and took us hiking! And low key teaching them the plan of salvation lol
-english spelling is so weird, for example there's a city called derby but you say it like "darby" huh
-people call you "my duck" or "hi my ducky" haha presh
Funny:
-went to a members and challenged them to give a friend a book of mormon, the son pulled out all these copies of the book of mormon, a whole stack of like 10, and was like these are all the missionary challenges we've been given. Haha savage
- so we have an investigator (well we kinda stopped teaching him) and I think he does drugs but he was staring at the sun and telling us how great it is and missed church cause he was taking a bath :/ tears. But he moved out of his tent and got himself a flat so things are looking up for him!
Spiritual:
-our friend Nathan got baptised this past weekend! Hes proper awesome. Heres his story quick version-he was living in the states for like year, and went on a road trip and saw the Oakland California temple and was like whoa what is that, checked out the visitors centre with his friend, and that was it. Then met missionaries at uni last december and was interested and the missionaries got a little eager and kinda overwhelmed him, but he couldn't get the church out of his mind. So a couple of months ago he just walked into the church in Eastwood, dressed in suit and tie so everyone thought he was already a member! Even tho I just barely met him last week and was only there the week before he got baptised, it's been a pleasure to see his faith continue to grow and be baptised and receive the Aaronic priesthood! So so cool! But literally even though everything possible went wrong with the day (our programmes we made for it got deleted and the computer at the church broke so we couldn't print it there, baptismal font took probably about 5 men to fill it and when it was finally enough for nathan to lay down in it was freezing cold water, none of our other ifriends came becuase it was pouring rain, the special video we had wouldn't work, etc etc) it still was a wonderful day. It's hard when so many things are out of your control, but I love being reminded that god is so aware of us and gives us little miracles every day :)
-on monday after p day, we had a zone fireside in nottingham and the zone leaders talked about finding joy in the work. They talked about having JOY (jesus first, others second, yourself last). Its so true! If you do things in that order, you really will feel so much true everlasting joy! Its my new fav lil thing!
-this place seriously is so good. A lot of people are really open and curious about the gospel because they've never seen missionaries before. We are teaching a guy named Anthony right now, first time we had a lesson with him he brought up how he wants to be baptised! Yo so good. So we'll be working with him and his family, they really have that desire to have a better life. We also had a cool experience being led to the bishops family's friend that they told us to try by and when we called by the mum was interested. So many miracles! I wish I could explain them all haha
JOYS <3
-when our baptismal programme got deleted, i saw that other missionaries had altered Nathan's programme and replaced it was Jacob, someone I taught and almost got baptised in my last area! As frustrated as I was that our programme got deleted, I was sooooo happy to find out someone I had taught is able to make that sacred covenant of baptism! Ahh
-it also is so good to hear little miracles happening in horbury!!! Shout out my girl sis gamil:)
-getting english Ikea breakfast
-going to newstead Abbey today, woooooooow! It was beautiful and lovely and I'm in love with england. Hehe that's all :)
Sorry so long, hope you enjoy. Cheers mates! Xx sister Bascom
