venturing into Comptom

Makenna Bascom

Week 25

England:

-last p day, we went to leeds to do a lil shopping with our girls sister Richards and paki :) afterwards, we went into a way dodgy part of town called harehills, to find a Filipino store for sis gamil. When you are walking down the street, it does not seem like you are in england, it feels like you are in a totally different foreign country. It's so diverse, with people from Portugal, Africa, Romania, Pakistan, India, Poland, China, etc. And there's so many knock off KFC places, (best fried chicken, Leeds fried chicken, Arab fried chicken..) haha so we're walking down this street in harehills in the pouring rain and it's so dirty and I was like wow this is such an adventure.

-so our flat is right across the street from a church, the one that the bells ring every 15 min. We've been invited a few times to go practice ringing the bells with them, and so this week we went. It was cool, but also kinda weird. One of the old guys really liked sister gamil and getting a lil flirty with her haha awk. And this other creepy guy we always see was there and so that was just also awkward. I wish we could have actually rang them, but we just watched, lame. We fled right before 9pm haha

Funny:

- we went and did service in Leeds while we were on exchange, at this cute river mill place. A bunch of missionaries were there, and we were helping pick up rubbish and get rid of some invasive species along the river. Haha so im with sister schwendiman (stl) and we found an egg hidden in the grass. We got to excited cause it was heavy and must have something inside. We tried to crack it and then sister Richards (my mtc companion) comes over and grabs it and just smashes it on her helmet (just like Ramona in Ramona and beezus lolol) and it exploded everywhere and smelled so rotten and I was laughing so hard. It was soooooooooo funny oh wow

-i love the horbury ward. Everyone thats around our age in the ward is coming home from their missions and dating and getting married, one of the guys in our ward got married about a month ago, and his bro and the ward mission leaders son made this vid for him. So this week at a tea appointment, they showed us the video. I was expecting it to be like 3 or 4 minutes, but it was 15 minutes long!!! Lol I was dyin so funny

-basically everything that was funny happened while we were on exchange. But that night we were sleeping over and the sisters gave us this candy, and from their little friend brett who got baptised a few weeks ago, so I just pop it in.... little did I know that it was a spicy hot pepper candy!!!!!!! I was dying it was so hot. Haha rip It burned me hahaha. Sister gamil was strong, her Filipina self is used to the spiciness

- we were in Harehills later in the week on exchange trying to help out a member, then we popped into the library to ask them a question or something Idk. First of all, this library is called the Compton center, so you know it's gonna be good. We walk in, and the librarians are a bunch of Asian (muslim) men and they're asking us all these questions and quizzing us, then they were asking me my fav scripture in the book of mormon, haha it was so funny. Glad we could have a little discussion and they were impressed I know a thing or two about the Koran haha boom thanks jeru

Spiritual

-we had a really good companion study this week, where we talked about the spiritual gifts we have in our patriarchal blessings. It was really good! Helped me realise that I have so many things God has blessed me with, and that I can use those gifts in my everyday missionary work. I love patriarchal blessings!

-Susan! Haha she's so funny. She texted us something in French earlier this week, of course we have no idea what it meant, apparently it said "I think I'm ready." for... baptism???? Haha we hope so. but she's doing good, her faith in Heavenly father and Jesus Christ are so strong, we are working with her :)

-whilst on exchange, I loved meeting so many different people, Leeds is so diverse. And its so easy to find people who are interested lol. We met this woman named Kim on the bus, and she literally changed my life. Wow, she was so nice! We talked for ages and she just was so kind and saying how amazing it was that we were doing this, when we gave her our card she was like ugh! Wow i love that! Haha she was so nice. Thanks Kim

-i was thinking about how Christ helps me endure hardness. I'm so grateful that I know about His gospel and the plan of salvation. Knowing that he has gone through everything that I will experience helps me have peace that if He can do it, I can too. I love Jesus, he is truly my best friend!

Joys

-exchanges with Schwen . ! Hehe love that girl. We just chat and had so much fun together:)

-sister meeting in huddersfield and sleepover last night! They have two bunk beds and there were 8 of us, and we couldn't share beds with our companions so we just swapped around so me and sister redington (my girl from the mtc) got to snuggle lol so fun mems. We got to have a little campfire and made Smores too :)

-Idk if y'all remember our golden investigator Jacob, but he moved to leeds into the sister training leaders area, so I got to teach him on exchange! It was presh. And in Starbucks lol awk...

I love my mission! I can't believe how fast it is going by! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Loves from England xx
